BRINGING SRI LANKAN STREET FOOD TO THE UK.

JAY RAYNER REVIEW FOR THE OBSERVER

Top food critic Jay Rayner recently stopped by TCT Cheltenham to sample Sri Lankan street food, TCT-style. Check out his review at TheGuardian.com

“LAID BACK, CHEAP AND FULL OF CHARM, THE COCONUT TREE CAPTURES THE VIVID FLAVOUR OF SRI LANKA.”

THE COCONUT TREE MANTRA

  • DON’T expect a napkin…it’s a roll of paper towels

  • DO expect an explosion of flavours in our dishes and sweet & fiery Cocotails

  • DO expect candles in half coconuts

  • DON’T expect a massive food bill…but do expect to spoil yourself with drinks

  • DO expect meats, fish & veggies (lots)

  • DO expect warm Sri Lankan hospitality

  • DON’T expect the volume to stay down too long

OUR STORY

The Coconut Tree is more than just a bar and restaurant. We are a family. Take a group of Sri Lankan friends living in London & Cheltenham, relocate everyone to Cheltenham in 2016, add a couple extra to complete our team going forward and work to make a dream reality. What simply started off as finding a place to call home above a pub, we then sought permission to lease the bar and kitchen of 59 St Paul’s Road, after a renovation project was carried out every night whilst working full time jobs, The Coconut Tree was born.

We aim to deliver the best Sri Lankan street food, sweet and fiery Cocotails served with warm hospitality, in a stripped back ‘street style’ interior with great tunes.
