MEET THE OWNER - JANE GRAY OF CHARLTON GRAY

You come across as warm and hands-on as an accountant. Do you think the image of accountants is changing? I always thought they were people in suits!

Ah thank you, we try to be friendly! There are obviously still a fair number of die hard 'traditional style' accountants but from what i can see there is a shift in our industry - it isn't just about the numbers it is about how we can help in all aspects of a business and how we can keep you on track for your goals.  Most important of all is trust - giving someone access to your financials is a big thing and i often feel quite humbled by that.

What do you do in your spare time when you're not helping sort out people's accounts?

I'm a single Mum of 3 so with a business to run I have to keep my body and mind healthy; I run every day, listen to lots of podcasts and do love a good sports documentary.

Where's your favourite place to eat out in Cheltenham?

I don't get out much! The Langton in Charlton Kings is my go-to for meeting up with friends.

Where's your favourite country walk in Gloucestershire?

My favourite run is to the top of Aggs Hill near Cleeve Common; the views are amazing at any time of year and it is so peaceful.

Are you a pet person and if so what kind of pet/s do you have?

Definitely and we have a 12 year old Beagle x Border Terrier who is the boss of all of us!

Could you give us a piece of business advice to share with the readers?

It is going to be two fold - from an accounts perspective - don't go there and try and do it yourself, focus on your business and leave it to the professionals; we have seen many costly mistakes and it just isn't worth it. Get yourself a mentor/coach/accountability partner that suits the stage of the business you are in - it can make a huge difference.

What event are you looking forward to? (eg Jazz Festival, a concert/gig/show?)

I've seen The Killers and Kings of Leon in the last year which reminds me I need to get something booked in!

What did you dream of becoming when you were a child?

An Olympic 3 Day Event Champion; I got part of the way there with a European Bronze - so near yet so far....

What book are you reading?

Currently Shoe Dog by Phil Knight - the fascinating story of Nike.

Current favourite song you could listen to on repeat?

I seem to be in a Bruce Springsteen phase at the moment but my music tastes are eclectic to say the least.
